Happy National Women’s Day: Championing Women’s Socio-Economic Rights

Nelson Mandela held the conviction that just as people can be educated to harbour hatred, they can also be educated to embrace love. This principle is equally applicable to the realm of gender equality. If a society can be taught to perpetuate inequity between genders, it means the opposite is attainable as well.

The gender disparities we currently strive to overcome by 2030 are products of societal constructs that were established by specific individuals who endorsed them as cultural norms. Consequently, this signifies that constant effort towards achieving gender equality has the potential to reverse these constructs and pave the way for positive change.

This National Women’s Day celebrated under the theme: “Women’s Socio-Economic Rights and Empowerment: Building Back Better for Women’s Improved Resilience,” reminds us that the exclusion of women from political and socio-economic matters not only infringes upon their rights but also robs the world of the valuable contributions of their innovative ideas.

As we actively contribute our part in echoing this year’s theme in our workspace, we join the entire country in paying tribute to all the women in South Africa and beyond that are championing the cause to amplify all women’s voices.

We would also like to recognise the efforts of the women who marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria on this day in 1956 to protest against Pass Laws. Their bravery cannot be overlooked as it still stands as a beacon of resilience and hope to women the world over.

The Image At Work team is extending warm National Women’s Day wishes and greetings to all the amazing women out there!
